Grantis

Grant Apiata

Grantis (aka G13) hails from Matauri Bay, Northland - those are his roots and where he considers home, and he’s one of the early members of the Maori HiFi.

He initially started to DJ because he loves music and says, “it makes me feel all tingly and stuff”.  So far, the highlight of his DJ career has been opening for Sunshine Sound System at Rakinos when he first started off.  The vibe was massive, the crowd was on point, he got props from the legendary Manuel Bundy and it was an all ‘round amazing night.  That pretty much sums up what Grant is about.  He brings a light-hearted and fun vibe with him wherever he goes, feeding off the energy of the crowd and dancing along to his favourite tracks.  His other artistic talents include photography - and he loves a good feed of fry bread and kina or chocolate paddle pops.

He can be heard spinning tracks from his bedroom, but is also a friendly and familiar face in the local scene, playing across Auckland in various bars and clubs and as a radio personality hosting The Afternoon Delight on Base FM 107.3 and The Brown Paper Bag on KFM 106.9.

Grantis always packs a mix of vinyl and serato and is ready to jump onto the decks wherever he goes.  While he’s got an extensive and eclectic range of music, and can fit in with whatever you’re looking for, his favourite genres of music to play are RnB, Neo-Soul, Hip Hop and a bit of Reggae.
